Lavrov’s manipulation that Olaf Scholz was forced to agree to the placement of US missiles in Germany

Russian propaganda actively exploits the narrative of the so-called “world hegemon” in the image of the United States of America. In the propaganda cliché, that the same hegemon dictates his conditions to everyone and indicates how to live and what to do. In the same way, the hegemon can do literally anything with his, so to speak, junior partners – order something, force him to do something. This is how the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, tried to describe Germany’s agreement to place American medium-range missiles on its territory the other day – that’s what Scholz was told, and he humbly nodded his head. However, this is a blatant manipulation. More on this in the article.

Propaganda / Manipulation

The other day, during a speech at the International Science Fiction Symposium-Exhibition “Creating the Future”, Lavrov said the following:

“Germany “shamefully resigned” to the destruction of the “Nordic Streams”, Sergey Lavrov said… Berlin was informed of the decision to place American medium-range land-based missiles on German territory. Scholz’s reaction was ambiguous – the chancellor only called such a decision “good”. It is sad that the current ruling elite of many European countries clearly do not see a future for themselves in a multipolar world and are looking for salvation from an overseas hegemon.”

So, according to the logic of the Kremlin’s so-called diplomat, the missile placement scheme was as follows: the USA said – Scholz nodded. However, the facts show otherwise.

Berlin and Washington announced plans to place US medium-range missiles in Germany during the Washington NATO summit in July 2024. The message from the two governments said that the missiles were conventional, that is, not nuclear, and would be part of a so-called “multi-domain task force.” The American military doctrine refers to the combined use by the military of five domains, spheres – on land, at sea, in the air, in space, and in cyberspace.

n August 2024, the Head of the Foreign Ministry, Annalena Burbok, emphasized that the fact that Berlin is now “investing in its own security and power” – within the framework of the EU and NATO, as well as at the national level – can protect Germany. These measures include the decision to place American long-range weapons in Germany. http://surl.li/nmubxz

According to her, Germany needs to build a “reliable deterrent” to Russian aggression. Such steps should also protect Poland, the Baltic states and Finland, “which directly border Russia and have experienced the explosive effect of hybrid border measures in recent months.”

Subsequently, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that he sees serious gaps in the country’s defense capability, which is why it was decided to deploy SM-6 anti-aircraft missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles and experimental hypersonic weapons from 2026, http://surl.li/dwcrzl

That is, it was far from Scholz himself who made the decision – it was the vision of his entire cabinet. However, there is another interesting fact.

For more than a month, the leadership of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) considered the agreement of its own party member, “This step is a reaction to Russia’s flagrant violation of international law in Ukraine, which takes into account the growing threat to Europe due to the massive Russian buildup of weapons in recent years specifically in the field of medium-range missiles.” – according to the resolution of the SDPN presidium, adopted on August 12. http://surl.li/jjfldx

“We, SPD, take responsibility for ensuring that no child born today in Germany has to experience war again,” the resolution continues. “The agreement of the German government under the leadership of the Social Democrats with the US administration on the placement of American missiles in Germany from 2026 is an important contribution to this,” the deputies summarized.

That is, the discussion and study of the issue also took place at the party level, by deputies who are members of the German parliament. And with great probability, if the people’s elected representatives decided not to support the initiative of the government officials, the situation would have developed completely differently. Therefore, the deployment of medium-range missiles in Germany by Germany itself is a decision of both the authorities and the deputies. And taking into account that the latter are the people’s elected representatives – the German people themselves.
