Manipulation of Kremlin propaganda about a “generous offer” to Ukraine from Russia after the end of the war

Against the background of the devastating events on the part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, Russian propaganda began to actively spread the message that with such actions Ukraine lost the “last chance” for “peaceful resolution of the conflict” and negotiations. And such statements have been made at the highest international level – the deputy representative of the Russian mission to the UN, Dmytro Polyansky, said at a meeting of the organization the other day that “in June, Russia made a “generous offer” for negotiations, but “the Zelensky regime chose escalation.” He also added that “Ukraine will bitterly regret the foray into the Kursk region.”

We have already heard the Kremlin’s threats many times. But regarding the “generous offer” – it is worth understanding, because it is an outright manipulation.

Manipulation

On the eve of the Ukrainian Peace Summit in Switzerland, namely on June 14 – this was done on the eve of the event on purpose – the so-called President of the Russian Federation Putin named the conditions under which he is ready to cease fire and start peace negotiations.

The conditions announced by Putin related to the following:

– “withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territories of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions”,

– “Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO,

– announcement of the neutral, non-aligned and non-nuclear status of the country.

Putin named the international recognition of the occupation of Crimea and the territories of four regions of Ukraine as the conditions of the probable peace treaty. Also, in the process of peaceful settlement, according to the President of Russia, Western countries should cancel all sanctions imposed against Moscow.

Such a “generous” offer. However, it is worth analyzing the proposal not so much emotionally as factually.

For this, it is necessary to recall the demands that Russia put forward to Ukraine at the beginning of the war on February 24, 2022. They were issued by the Russian Federation for the purpose of the so-called “svo”. Russia then demanded:

– Ukraine’s neutrality and refusal to join NATO in the future;

– demilitarization and mutual provision of security guarantees according to the Austrian model;

– “denazification”;

– elimination of “obstacles” to the widespread use of the Russian language;

– recognition of the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”;

– recognition of the annexed Crimea as Russian territory.

As we can see, the requirements at the beginning of the war and the points of the peace “generous plan” are identical in their main provisions. Moreover, in the “generous offer” Ukraine is actually offered to give up four oblasts.

So, in fact, Russia has not softened its position in any way since the beginning of the war, and statements about a “generous offer” are a blatant manipulation brought to the level of the UN.
